David Messick

Writer, Composer, Director, Choreographer

When David was a young child, he saw his first live theatre production.  Then and there, he knew he wanted to be involved in the creative process.  Since that time, he has gone on to write original musicals, help develop websites and publications, guided companies to understand their audiences and, met some really amazing people along the way.

By age 17, David was directing a Tony Award winning actor in a production of "The Apple Tree."  Just out of college, he was working with international theater companies at the New Orleans World's Fair.  There he met Jim Henson and almost had to tell him that a group of rare and irreplaceable puppets from Italy had been lost somewhere between Italy and New Orleans.  Before an international incident occurred, the puppets were found, safely packed near the stage!

David's credits include writing over 120 songs for his many musical productions including "The Amazing Adventures of Chessie the Manatee" created for the Virginia Aquarium, "A Pirate Party" starring movie legend Mickey Rooney and Broadway legend Carol Channing, "From the Sea to the Sky" created for America's 400th Anniversary in Jamestown and narrated by Grammy-winner Bruce Hornsby and Tuskegee Airman Ezra Hill.  David's production of "The Wright Brothers" was performed at Wolftrap, the National Park for the Arts, his production "The Search for Gold" was created for the Holocaust Commission, and his production of "Noah's Floating Zoo" was featured at the national convention of the Fellowship of Christian Puppeteers.

When not writing and producing his own shows, David is busy helping others create, market and develop programs and products.  He is currently the Director of Audience Develpment for the Daily Press Media Group.  There he has managed and created market research products to develop new magazines, print products, and web sites.

For ASI Market Research, he managed market research projects for the Disney Channel, Universal Television, Paramount Pictures, Warner Brothers and NBC.  He was directly involved in development projects for "The Oprah Winfrey Show," "Duck Tales," "The Simpsons," "Star Trek - The Next Generation" "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Home Improvement."

For Chuck E. Cheese, David created original characters and character voices for television commercials and personal appearances.  He's a past president of the Puppet Arts Center of Virginia, has taught for Puppeteers of America, and is co-founder of the Virginia Festival of Puppet Ministry and Creative Arts.  As a tap teacher, his students have gone on to professional careers with the Radio City Rockettes and on Broadway.  It's while teaching tap that he met his future wife Marcy.  They are the parents of two creative and active boys.  When they are not busy studying or playing soccer,  they are puppeteers with their parents.

David's cd's are available at cdbaby.com and many other locations...
